White for Summer? How original!

On my previous post, Para34 asked me to share the dresses on my wishlist. I decided to categorize them by color. So, let’s kick it off with White.

White Dress Set 1

Dress 1: P.A.R.O.S.H  Stretch Cotton, Made in Italy.Dress 2: SUNO Broderie Anglaise, 100% Cottton

Dress 1: I like the simplicity of this P.A.R.O.S.H stretch cotton dress. It reminds me of my school uniform –  modest and functional. The pleats on this one look well made and could potentially hold their shape well. Paired with a simple tan belt, it would look perfect for work. Read more

So, I bought stuff in April

One of my shopping ban goals was to spend no more than $50 per month on beauty, skin care during the period of the ban. I don’t think this is realistic limit for me if I go strictly by numbers. I mean a good lipstick costs close to $20 these days!

This is only possible because I bought quite a few things before the ban (annual supply of moisturizer, cleanser, a new Serum – SK-II etc).  So, it only made sense for me to just go on a strict diet of $50 or less. The end goal is to figure out a simple skin care and beauty regime by the end of the Shopping Ban exercise. In March, I did not buy any products. The one lipstick I bought was promptly returned. So, I had an extra $50 for my skin care budget this month.

Initially I thought April wasn’t going to be any different from March. But then I needed a few products. So, here you go:

Shopping Ban Update # 1

I thought it would be a good idea to do an update every few weeks.

Overall Thoughts: It’s going good. I haven’t been tempted to buy anything. But I was not able to stop myself from browsing online once in a while. Ebay and Poshmark are my poison of choice. I am happy to report that I am able to moderate the dosage of internet time when compared to before.

Gifts from Singapore

In January this year, we visited our family in India. We also used this time to go on a short trip to Singapore. It was a blessing that everyone could take time off from work and got to travel with the entire brood (both sets of parents and our siblings).

The thing about Singapore is that there is no extraordinary view or one-of-its-kind beach you’ll have to check off your list. The country is super efficient, clean, and unique in being a city-country. All these make it the perfect family destination for a bit of R & R, lounging by the pool, and exploring the awesome food scene at a laid back pace.I will not bore you with the details of our family vacation.

I was really proud of myself for not going overboard in any of my shopping escapades during my entire vacation (India and Singapore). So, I decided to treat myself to a couple of nice things at the Singapore airport duty free stores on our way back.

1. Comme Des Garcon Play Striped Tee: This is turning out to be my favorite t shirt of all time. It costs 10 times as much as Gap Tee and about 4 times as much as an Everlane Striped Tee. I am yet to find out if the ‘Made in  Japan’ tag lives up to its hype. If you go strictly by cost per wear, it should last at least 100 wears without even trying too hard.

Love for the Lovely Italian

pg-35-vogue-1

Franca Sozzani is one of my favorite Editors and Style Icons of all time. I briefly mentioned her in my StyleBy post. I have always admired how she carries herself. There is a quiet strength and kindness about her.

Besides being the Editor-In-Chief and Artistic Director of Conde Nast Italia (Vogue Italia, Lei, Per Lui, Vogue Bambini and other Conde Nast Italian magazines), publishing and collaborating on art and photography books through out her career, she also wrote a daily column in Vogue Italia for a while. Here are a few tidbits that I really loved and wanted to share.

Begin Again: Style Recap

Have you seen the movie Begin Again? It was available on Netflix in October. If you haven’t already watched it, please do.  It reminded me of another awesome music movie that I watched many years ago – Once.

Kiera Knightley is clearly the star of the movie. Over the years, I watched all of her movies. Some, I like more than others. But as somebody who loves the magic of clothes, I’d say the real star of the movie is her Style. She pretty much wears a uniform without trying too hard to match anything. The formula is so simple and beautiful.
